How long have you lived in your current home? 1 year? 5 years? 10 years? 15 years? Do you know how long the average UK homeowner lives in their home? The answer to that has been revealed to be 20.8 years.

Zoopla recently revealed this information as they analysed the average turnover of local properties across The UK to find out the typical number of years a homeowner occupies a property before moving.

The area where people stay in their homes the longest just happens to be one of the most expensive areas in The UK – Kensington and Chelsea. The residents of Kensington and Chelsea move homes on average every 35.5 years, suggesting that once people own a home there, they’re happy to spend a large chunk of their life living in this desirable area.

On the other hand, the two districts where people move most frequently were revealed to be Dartford and South Derbyshire, where homeowners move every 15 years.

Laura Howard from Zoopla said that “these results contradict a common assumption that UK neighbourhoods are becoming more transient. They show that, once you’ve managed to buy a property to call home and set down roots in an area, there can be little motivation to move again.”

Do you agree with this? Are you happy with where you currently live or are you someone who likes to move home frequently?
